LOGLINE:
In the midst of colonial chaos on Cape Cod, a flamboyant British artist and his fabulous cross-dressing best friend join the Colonial Army, only to discover unexpected romance and a whirlwind of danger when they cross paths with a fierce, ahead-of-her-time feminist and her captivating warrior companion.
SYNOPSIS:
After betraying his father and attending college for art, William Thatcher is set to marry the Duchess of Dartford to fund his frivolous lifestyle. But upon their engagement party, William abandons Daphne, calling off their engagement. Furious, his father enrolls him in a 3-year commission in the colonial Army. His GBF Bash dutifully enlists alongside him.
Phillipa Thornbottom, Pippa, is the only daughter of Elsie and Archibald Thornbottom, Reverend of a small church in Yarmouth Port. Being an activist, trouble often finds Pippa. After a rally against fur fashion goes too far and causes too much damage for her father to fix, Pippa and her family are ruined. Her only option is to be married off to Mayor Bunkle’s evil and unpopular son who she wants nothing to do with. Thankfully, as a result of her brilliant Native American GBF, Sparkle, - short for the son that loves sparkling things, the wedding is sabotaged.
Pippa and William’s paths cross when William and Bash are stationed in Yarmouth, during a daring horse race. William and Pippa soon find their lives entangled as do Bash and Sparkle who are smitten at first sight. William struggles to balance his role in maintaining the crown’s power against the very people Pippa is fighting for. Still, Pippa finds something endearing about William. Then, William and Bash are shipped off to war. It will take sheer will, determination, and a lot of help from Sparkle, his fearless tribe, and Pippa’s loyal badass whale friend, Moby for this team to defeat pirate, Black Bellamy, and his double-crossing sidekick parrot, Madame Teteux to land home safely and back in their lovers' arms. However; the evil forces are conspiring against them upon attending Bunkle’s extravagant masquerade ball to receive their medals of honor. They must join forces once again to stop Bunkle and his vicious clan. Until the next time…
What sets Pippa and The Major apart is that it is an action-packed story in the vein of Outlander and The Pirates of the Caribbean. It represents a diverse array of characters and inclusivity against the backdrop of real historical events. None of our lead characters are stereotypical. Although this novel is rooted in real history it is told through a modern-day lens with a fun surreal twist that excites and entertains readers.

Meanwhile, Pippa Thornbottom is vehemently against marriage and is intent on making waves politically in Yarmouth with her progressive views and activism.

THERESA MITCHELL
Pippa and the Major transports a reader to the colonial Cape Cod town of Yarmouth on the brink of war against a backdrop of passion, danger, broken engagements, and grand adventures. With roots in true historic events albeit with a winning fantasy edge, this book transports a reader into the world of a feisty patriotic heroine with feminist leanings ready for love, and a rebellious and dashing artist-turned-soldier loyal to the Crown. Their sidekick characters further put flesh to the imagination. Pippa is a sumptuous feast of words beyond any literary dessert I’ve consumed!
